DonorsChoose has proven to be an excellent way for parents and community members to directly fun classroom projects. On November 14th, Superintendent Deasy announced that the Wasserman Foundation has pledged $4 million to LAUSD schools.

Half of those pledged funds ($2 million) will be used for projects specified by the District, but the remaining $2 million will go directly to parents in the form of 600,000 gift cards of a $15 value. If you receive one, you can apply those funds directly to projects posted on the DonorsChoose site by your child's teacher. 

In January 2012, Starbucks customers at Los Angeles-based shops will receive a gift card, allowing them to apply funds to projects in LAUSD schools. Be sure to tell your friends and family what project needs funding most.
